About this Course


This four day course, Configuration Management for IT and Software Development, explores the spectrum of standards, initiatives and practices that are found throughout organizations today. Students explore the benefits and drawbacks of different philosophies relating to Software Configuration Management and IT deployment. Through lecture, discussion and small group exercises, students will determine appropriate best practices, at all times keeping focused on the goal of integrated, consistent Enterprise CM. The course will also examine measurement and analysis techniques to evaluate behaviors and workflows to achieve consistent, high quality output with minimized variation. These techniques will assist in accomplishing the objectives of continuous improvement quality models, and initiatives intended to deliver lean, repeatable optimized processes.

Prerequisite


Successful completion of CMPIC Courses 1 - 4, or CM job experience, is required prior to attending this class. Student should be familiar with common CM terms and practices prior to taking this course.


 

Intended Audience


CM practitioners and their managers will greatly benefit by exploring the full scope of CM possibilities beyond their normal silos. This class offers customers of the CM process, including developers, build and release agents, and those tasked with integrating Enterprise CM, an environment where they can explore and discuss process improvement. They will also gain further insight from fellow classmates who will come from various industries.

 

Certification and CEUs


All attendees will receive "Configuration Management for IT and Software Development" Certification after successfully completing this course and exam. In addition, attendees will receive three (3.0) Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are approved through the Division of Continuing Education and are University of Houston CEUs. They are valid for any profession that recognizes the University CEUs.
